This coffee is grown on altitudes ranging from 1500 to 2100 meters. It is harvested from Juli until December and then prepared as an unwashed coffee. The coffee cherries lie on patios in the sun for about three weeks to dry. While being dried inside the coffee cherry the Guji develops a distinct fruity character.
Our coffee journey around the globe continues to our second stop which is Ethiopia. It is located in the very east of Africa, in the Horn of Africa, and is not only known for being the cradle of modern mankind but also has a very long and deep history of coffee growth and consumption.
It is the country of origin of the coffee plant “Coffea Arabica” which is the most famous and widespread coffee species in the world. Legend has it that an Ethiopian herder named Kaldi once noticed that his goats, who had eaten the cherries of the coffee plant before, were cheerful and energetic until late in the night. No matter whether this story is a fairy tale or not, it is undoubtable that Ethiopia has a remarkably long tradition of growing coffee plants with some of the most delicious coffees in the world.
